What to do with your motorbike before it goes into motorbike storage

23 December 2018

So, the time has come, and you need to put your motorbike into storage.

Most commonly people tend to store their bikes somewhere warm and safe during the winter months, and there’s a couple of things we recommend doing before putting your bike away for the foreseeable future.

Some of these tips are practical, and of course, some are just plain fun!

Here are five ways to make the most of your motorbike before it goes into storage.

1. Get your bike sparkling clean

If you view cleaning your bike as a way to preserve it before you ride again, you’ll derive even more satisfaction from giving it a final once over to get it glistening clean!

You’ll gain ultimate satisfaction knowing that your bike will be going into storage looking its absolute best, and when you take it back out, you’ll be good to go!

2. Give it a good maintenance check

The last thing you want is to get your motorbike out of storage to find it damaged and in need of repair work before you can ride it again.

Save yourself the despair and make sure any maintenance work is undertaken before dropping it into storage. We recommend filling the tank, changing the oil and replacing the cooling, break and clutch fluids.

3. Meet up with all your biker friends

It won’t be long before you’re out with your biker friends, albeit bike-less and deeply wishing you didn’t have to put your beloved bike into storage.

Until then, soak up the atmosphere of one final biker meet with yours by your side.

4. Take it for one last ride - a long one

We know that the winter can be a cold and hard slog for motorbike enthusiasts. It might feel like a lifetime away before you’ll once again get to feel that sensation of complete freedom as you bike solo along some of your favourite roads.

So, do yourself a favour and take your bike out for one last ride!

Depending on where you live and where your favourite roads are, you could make an entire day out of your final motorbike ride, and we’d totally encourage that!

Wherever you live, there are roads aplenty to take your bike for its final ride of the year, so get riding before you put your bike into storage.

5. Take your bike somewhere completely new

Has there been somewhere you’ve always wanted to go with your bike but never had the chance?

Well, don’t let the limited time you have left be a factor in deciding where to take your motorbike; go on that adventure you’ve always dreamed of before you put your bike into storage!

Wrapping up

For whatever reason you’re putting your bike into storage, you might want to do some last-minute modifications, maintenance work or undertake one or two outings before you say goodbye.

We hope we’ve given you enough inspiration to enjoy the last few moments with your motorbike before it goes into storage.
