Why secure car storage makes sense for classic cars

Your classic car is your pride and joy, and probably something that you spend many hours tinkering with, looking at adoringly and driving. Above and beyond the monetary value of your beloved classic, there’s a simple love and devotion to it that makes it such an important part of your life. Draughty, damp garages and dusty driveways can cause havoc with paintwork and advertise your car to potential thieves. Therefore, keeping your car safe and out of sight will mean there’s more of it to love, for longer. Here are some great reasons why you should consider keeping your classic car in a professional, secure car storage facility:

1. It’ll help it hold its value

Keeping your classic car in a controlled environment will protect not just the external areas, but also leather interiors and precious metal work. Having it safely stored away will also decrease the risk of damage from other road users or accidents. When you do come to part with it, cars that have been safely kept in storage are usually much more appealing to potential buyers than those that have been parked out in the open.

2. It’ll keep it safe from theft

Leaving your classic car on display is an invitation to thieves. All cars are at risk of theft, but classic cars can be particularly vulnerable due to their perceived value and the fact they may not have state of the art modern anti-theft devices fitted. Your car could be at risk from opportunists who are simply looking for a car to steal to sell or use, or it could be targeted by thieves who steal to order. Either way, keeping your car out of sight in a secure storage unit decreases the chance of it being taken.

3. It’ll keep the bodywork in tip-top condition

The Great British weather, as well as tree sap and other environmental factors can cause severe damage to your car’s exterior over time. Over exposure to the sun can cause paintwork to bubble, crack, chip or peel, while too much moisture in the air can accelerate the speed at which various components start to rust.

4. It’ll protect it from damage

You may drive your precious motor with love, attention and care, but you cannot guarantee that other road users will be as careful in theirs. Parking your car on the road, or even in a car park, can dramatically increase the risk of dents or bumps from other, less careful drivers. Keeping it safely tucked away means zero chance of damage from other vehicles.

5. It’ll be safe when you’re not using it

Some classic car drivers use theirs every day, whilst other only very occasionally. If you’re a weekend driver, or have a car that’s better suited to summer driving, keeping it keep in a controlled environment when it is not being driven will protect all of its interior and exterior components from damage, making it feel all the more special when you do take it out on the road.
